Master gardeners kick off annual plant sale

Julie Smith/News Tribune Jen Maurer, right, and Doug Galloway made their way to the tomato plants first thing Friday at the Central Missouri Master Gardeners Plant Sale at the greenhouses in north Jefferson City. Both are fans of the sale and attend early opening day to have a chance at the best selection possible. They were among the first wave who were waiting in line when the gate opened at 9 a.m. The sale will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday and continue until noon.

People in Central Missouri have a secret for growing tomatoes, peppers and flowers during the summer that make their neighbors jealous.
