Chamber entity has donated $15,000 to school bond issue

Alongside five candidates for three open seats on the Jefferson City School Board, Jefferson City voters will see a school bond issue on their April 4 ballot, and it’s an issue that’s brought in more than $15,000 — largely due to one donor.

A yes vote for the Proposition Kids FIRST bond issue would authorize the use of $85 million to build a new early childhood center, expand Nichols Career Center, and renovate both middle schools, among other projects, without raising the current tax rate.

A committee for the measure filed reports on receipts and expenditures with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

The committee, with Jason Schwartz serving as treasurer, reported having received a total of $15,650 during this election cycle.

From Feb. 19-March 23, the committee reported $550 received, along with $100 of “in-kind contributions.”

An in-kind contribution can include goods or services offered at a discount or no charge.

During that same period, the committee spent $2,789.44, the entirety of its expenditures throughout the election cycle.

That leaves $12,760.56 on hand at the close of the reporting period.

From Feb. 19-March 23, the committee received donations of $200 each from Lewis and Clark Middle School PTO and Jefferson City High School PTO.

The $15,000 from the previous reporting period all came from Civic Progress-Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce in January.
