Prep Baseball: Russellville splits doubleheader vs. Holden

WARRENSBURG -- The Russellville Indians split a state-ranked doubleheader Saturday against the Holden Eagles, winning 8-1 in Game 1 and losing 4-3 in Game 2.

Holden is ranked No. 6 in Class 3 and Russellville is the top-ranked team in Class 2.

Russellville scored the first eight runs of Game 1. Alex Oligschlaeger started the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning and capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Jake Schulte went 3-for-4 with three singles. Charlie Miller also had a two-run triple in the fourth for the Indians.

Miller was the winning pitcher, striking out eight and walking two in five innings. Jesse Daniel and Chris Seaver each struck out a batter in one inning of relief.

Holden (2-1) never trailed in Game 2, scoring two runs in the second inning and one each in the third and fourth innings.

Seaver had an RBI triple and scored on a single by Bryce Bryant in the fourth. Seaver hit a second RBI triple in the sixth, putting the tying run 90 feet from home plate, but he was stranded at third base to end the inning.

Four pitchers took the mound for the Indians. Schulte struck out three batters in two innings, Justin Seaver added two strikeouts in two innings of relief and Chris Seaver and Luke Oligschlaeger each had one strikeout in one inning of relief.

Russellville (4-1) hosts Class 1 No. 10 Northeast: Cairo on Monday.
