Jefferson City man charged with victim tampering

A Jefferson City man has been charged with tampering with a victim in a felony prosecution.

Elmer Jackson III, 49, was arrested March 13 for an offense that took place the same day in the 300 block of East High Street, according to a Cole County Sheriff's Office probable cause statement. The statement alleges Jackson was attempting to persuade a victim in another case he is a defendant in to recant their testimony. He reportedly asked the victim to write an affidavit stating Jackson hadn't committed any crimes against them.

He also allegedly wanted them to submit photos of injuries that had cleared up to the courts. The report states he contacted the victim through an audio/visual system in jail while incarcerated for a domestic assault charge.
