A Jefferson City man has been charged in Cole County court with domestic assault after an incident Sunday.

A Jefferson City probable cause statement said Brandon Betts, 39, attacked a woman he had a child with during a visit to her residence on Sunday evening in the 2100 block of Louis Circle. He allegedly grabbed her with both hands by the throat after an argument and pushed her to the floor, leaving marks on her neck before leaving the residence.

He later denied attacking the victim, according to the statement. He was charged with felony second-degree domestic assault.

Court documents state Betts has previously been convicted of possession of a controlled substance twice.
