Man, woman arrested on burglary charges

A 30-year-old Jefferson City woman and a 38-year-old Jefferson City man were arrested on burglary charges Monday morning by the Cole County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 5600 block of South Brooks Drive around 10 a.m. Monday in response to reports of trespassing and potential stealing. The caller said the suspects had possibly stolen from a shed and gave the dispatcher a description of the vehicle involved and information on the suspects.

Cole County deputies searched the area and found the described vehicle in the 5200 block of Bagnall Drive, according to a department news release. The search led the deputies to a residence in the block, which upon inspection had been broken into via the back door.

The deputies found three suspects inside the residence who allegedly admitted they had broken into the house the previous night and were there illegally, according to the release.

The investigation resulted in two suspects being arrested for second-degree burglary, which can be punished with up to seven years in prison or a fine of up to $10,000.

According to the release, the investigation is ongoing and more charges could come.
