A Jefferson City man was sentenced to seven years in prison this week for a 2018 burglary in Jefferson City.
Travis Deal, 42, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree burglary in December.
Deal was spotted on a home surveillance video breaking into a home in the 2400 block of Camzie Drive in April 2018, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.
Neighbors said they saw a vehicle back into the driveway of the home. The driver got out and opened the trunk of the vehicle, they said.
A handgun, cash and several items of jewelry were stolen from the home. One of the pieces of jewelry was a gold basketball pendant and was described as an heirloom of the victim's mother.
Officers stopped Deal's vehicle, recognizing it from the home surveillance video. Deal was found to be in possession of the gold pendant in his jacket pocket. He claimed he had found the pendant in a tool bag in his vehicle.
Court records state Deal was violating his probation by being in Jefferson City without the permission of his probation officer. At the time of his arrest, he was on probation for second-degree burglary and two prior convictions for burglary. Deal also has several other arrests for felony crimes and has been revoked from probation multiple times for prior criminal offenses.
