Renegades end long road trip by beating Bombers

SEDALIA -- The Jefferson City Renegades wrapped up an eight-game, five-day road trip Tuesday with a 10-4 victory against the Sedalia Bombers in MINK League action.

Jefferson City had a 3-5 record on the road trip.

The Renegades took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Luke Matschine hit a leadoff single, stole second base and scored on a single to left field by Aiden Baumann, tying the game at 3. Two batters later, Justin Rivera reached on an error, scoring Baumann to put Jefferson City in front by a run.

It was the start of eight unanswered runs by the Renegades.

Two runs scored on passed balls in the fifth inning, then Jefferson City plated four more runs in the seventh.

Drew Wellington scored on a passed ball, then Matschine and Kadyn Williams hit back-to-back RBI singles. Williams scored on a Sedalia error to increase Jefferson City’s lead to 10-3.

Matschine scored on a groundout by Baumann in the first inning for the Renegades’ first run. Chase Haner drew a bases-loaded walk in the third for Jefferson City’s second run.

Brock Bartin was the winning pitcher for the Renegades. In 3⅓ innings of scoreless relief, he allowed two hits and struck out four batters.

Colin Shreves followed with two innings on the mound, giving up one run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Aiden Strickland pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close the win.

Sedalia (3-4) tallied 14 hits, getting four from Caleb Roofe from the No. 6 spot in the batting order.

Jefferson City (3-6) returns home to host Nevada tonight at Vivion Field. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
