Eugene woman sentenced for resisting arrest

A Eugene woman was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to a 2021 incident.

Chelsea Morris, 28, pleaded guilty to resisting arrest, first-degree property damage, fourth-degree assault and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers spotted Morris in July 2021 in a vehicle parked in a public housing parking lot on Locust Street, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement. Authorities said they knew Morris had several felony parole violation warrants.

Officers parked their car to partially block Morris' vehicle. An officer went to the driver's side door and talked with Morris through an open window. Morris allegedly was moving around and was ordered to stop, but she continued until she got her keys into the ignition, the statement said.

One officer tried to open the driver's door, but it was locked. Morris reportedly started the vehicle and placed it in gear. The officer went through the open window and tried to place the vehicle in park. A second officer started to help the first officer, and authorities said Morris struggled with both officers and was able to get the vehicle moving.

Morris got the vehicle to go forward and strike the parked police patrol car. Eventually, she complied with officers' commands, the statement said, and was taken into custody.

A search of Morris' vehicle allegedly revealed a cellophane bag with what authorities said held 12.2 grams of methamphetamine.
