United Way fundraising races ahead

SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital is waving the green flag -- signaling the start to another United Way fundraising campaign.

Following along with the Super Mario Kart theme this year, St. Mary's Hospital is raffling off a VIP two-day racing experience.

The winner will spend two days immersed in racing events. The package includes a one-night state at a hotel.

The winner will receive two pit passes to the Ironman 55 -- World of Outlaw Sprint Cars and Xtreme Midgets on Aug. 5 at the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at Interstate 55, in Pevely. Hot laps usually start between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m., with races beginning at 7 p.m.

At 10 a.m. Aug. 6, the winner will begin learning from NASCAR legend Kenny Schrader. One lucky person will get to run eight laps in a Kenny Schrader Racing Dirt Modified car, followed by Schrader giving you the ride of your life -- as he drives you in a two-seater for three laps around the track.

The package is valued at $1,000.

Raffle tickets are $10 each or $25 for three. They may be found at unitedwaycemo.org/ssmhealthVIPrace.

Ticket sales will end at 5 p.m. Thursday. The winner will be notified on July 28.

St. Mary's Hospital is also teaming up with Big Whiskey's American Restaurant and Bar for a fundraiser 5-9 p.m. Thursday. During that period, 10 percent of all sales benefit the United Way fundraising campaign.
