Blair Oaks boys wrestling takes second at Seneca Tournament

SENECA -- The Blair Oaks Falcons had four individual champions, finishing in second place in the team standings Friday and Saturday during the Seneca Tournament.

Blair Oaks totaled 404 points, trailing only tournament champion Seneca, which finished with 433 points. Har-Ber (Ark.) was a distant third with 284.5 points.

Claiming first-place finishes for the Falcons were Easton DeMilia at 120 pounds, Whit Nichols at 126, Zach Rackers at 165 and Brady Kerperin at 215.

Kerperin finished with a 7-0 record at the two-day event, winning his first six matches by fall -- five in the first period. In the championship match, Kerperin won a 3-1 sudden victory against Tristin Gavette of Versailles.

Kerperin improved to 34-0 with the win, while Gavette is 33-2, with both losses coming against Kerperin.

Rackers had a 6-0 record en route to his first-place finish. He won his first five matches by fall and claimed a 13-0 major decision against Cassville’s Jake Anthonysz in the title match.

Rackers also remains undefeated this season with a 43-0 record.

Nichols had a 7-0 record during the tournament with three wins by fall, two by major decision and two by decision. Nichols won 14-0 against fellow teammate Kaiden Caudle -- representing Blair Oaks’ JV team -- in the first-place match.

DeMilia had a 5-0 record with three wins by pin and two wins by decision. He won 7-4 in the championship match against Cooper Claussen of Springdale (Ark.).

Blair Oaks brought 12 wrestlers to the tournament. Ten finished in the top three of their respective weight classes.

Taking second place for the Falcons were Nolan DeMilia at 106 and Doug Blaha at 175.

Blaha had a 5-1 record with four wins by fall, while DeMilia finished 2-1 with one pin.

Third-place finishers were Jacob Canaday at 113, Bradyn Huhn at 132, Nolan Laughlin at 138 and Hayden Steadman at 285.

Huhn had a 5-2 record with two pins, Laughlin posted a 5-2 record with five wins by fall, Canaday ended the tournament 4-2 with two pins and Steadman was 4-2 with two wins by fall.

Dylan Peate took fourth place at 190 with a 3-3 record with three pins, whle Jackson Finke finished eights at 144 with an 0-5 record.

Blair Oaks is off until Feb. 7, when it hosts Pleasant Hill and Sullivan in a tri-dual in its home finale.

The Blair Oaks JV team finished in eight place during the Seneca Tournament. The Falcons posted 118 points, the most of the six JV teams competing, and placed ahead of two varsity teams in the final standings.

Caudle and Cole Peters each placed second for the JV Falcons. Caudle had a 4-2 record at 126 with two pins and Peters posted a 4-2 record at 190 with two wins by fall.

Nate Casey was sixth at 120 with a 1-5 record, Carson Rustemeyer took sixth at 215 with a 1-5 record and Jon Welch placed seventh at 285 with a 2-4 record.

Also competing for the Blair Oaks JV team was Brooks Nichols, who took ninth at 132 with a 2-3 record; Gage Leffert, who placed ninth at 165 with an 0-4 record; and Hunter Allen, who finished 10th at 138 with a 1-4 record.

The Blair Oaks JV team will compete Saturday in the Hickman JV Tournament.
