JCHS announces Winter Sports Court, king and queen

Jefferson City High School presented its Winter Sports Court and named the king and queen last week.

Demario Wright and Serenity Moore were named Winter Sports Court King and Queen.

Members of the court were:

• Wright, son of Meluin and Ellen Wright, has participated in track and field, Mac Scholars, Art Club and Jay-Linc. He has earned the Jay Pride Award. He plans to go to college for track and field and to study architectural design.

• Moore, daughter of Lakaisha McCaleb Sutherland and Andrew Sutherland, has participated in dance and Mac Scholars. She earned a Central Missouri Activities Conference championship with her dance team in 2020. She was named all-conference in 2020 and 2022 and Universal Dance Association all-American in 2022. Moore plans to attend Spelman College to study business marketing and entrepreneurship and minor in a pre-medical track and esthetics.

• Emma Farris, daughter of Tiffany and Matt Farris, has participated in marching band, student council, concert band, symphonic band, jazz band and drama club. She has also been honored by National Honor Society and Zonta International. She plans to attend the University of Missouri to study music education.

• Hannah Linthacum, daughter of Angie and Larry Linthacum, has participated in volleyball, basketball, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and student council. She has earned all-state honors in volleyball, basketball and academics and was named all-conference in basketball and volleyball. She plans to play basketball at the University of Missouri and is considering studying medical sciences.

• Kenzie Moore, daughter of Lora and Scott Moore, has participated in softball, wrestling, student council, NHS and FCA, and she has served as student body secretary. She was recognized as Rotary West October Student of the Month, academic all-state 2021 and December JC Schools Outstanding Student. She plans to attend Westminster to study accounting and financial planning.

• Zabrenna Mzeru, daughter of Elizabeth Kaganda Jackson, has participated in cheerleading, student council and Mac Scholars. She was co-captain of the step team and earned all-American honors for cheer two years. She plans to attend Missouri State University to study nursing and minor in a pre-medical track.

• Jesse Bilyeu, son of Charlie and Amber Bilyeu, has participated in football and was awarded the 2021 Burlesworth award, first team all-district offensive line in 2021, second team all-district defensive line in 2021 and second team all-conference offensive line in 2021. He plans to attend Central Methodist University to study athletic training.

• Riley Cooper, son of Josh and Kristen Cooper, has participated in soccer, symphonic orchestra, student council and tennis. He has earned the JC Schools Outstanding Student Award, first place Jeffersonian Leadership Award, Top Jay Award in soccer and Gold String Quintet at the State Music Festival. He plans to go on a two-year mission trip and then go into ROTC.

• Benjamin Parker, son of Jennifer and Thomas Parker, has participated in speech and debate and soccer. He plans to attend Truman State to study sports medicine.

• Billy Wood, son of William and Julie Wood, has participated in Marching Jay drumline, student council and tennis. He has earned a gold rating at the district and state levels, was named January student of the month and was named best drumline three times at marching competitions. Wood plans to attend State Technical College to study networking and cybersecurity.
