Girls Basketball: Father Tolton 37, Eugene 32

RUSSELLVILLE -- The Father Tolton Lady Trailblazers outscored the Eugene Lady Eagles 6-0 in the final 1:44 to win 37-32 in Saturday’s fifth-place game of the Russellville Tournament.

Tolton led 10-5 after one quarter and 15-10 at halftime.

Eugene -- which had just five players available for the game -- cut its deficit to 23-21 by the end of the third quarter. Bailey Budzinski knocked down a 3-pointer from the left wing on the opening possession of the fourth quarter to give Eugene its first lead of the game at 24-23.

Kaylee Kempker scored a layup from the left block with 6:47 to play, giving the Lady Eagles their largest lead of the game at 26-23.

Tolton answered with a 6-0 run to retake the lead, but Eugene battled back and retook the lead on two more occasions, as Kempker’s basket with 1:56 remaining gave the Lady Eagles a 32-31 advantage.

The Lady Trailblazers responded with a basket on their ensuing possession to start their 6-0 run to end the game.

Makenna Short finished with a team-high 13 points for fourth-seeded Eugene, while Kempker added 11 points. Ashlynn Kliethermes grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.

Seventh-seeded Tolton (7-11) was led by Sadie Sexauer with a game-high 15 points.

Sexauer made the all-tournament team for the Lady Trailblazers. Olivia Angerer -- who missed Saturday’s game due to injury -- was selected to the all-tournament team for the Lady Eagles.

Eugene (5-14) will host Calvary Lutheran on Monday.
