Boys Basketball: Versailles 65, Sedalia Smith-Cotton 55

ELDON -- Ryder Williams scored 36 points Monday, leading the Versailles Tigers to a 65-55 win against the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tigers in the first round of the Eldon Tournament.

Williams improved his scoring average to 28.8 points per game.

Versailles scored 18 points in the first 3:15 of the game and led 20-16 after one quarter. Smith-Cotton continued to keep the game close, trailing 34-28 at halftime and 49-43 through three quarters.

Smith-Cotton used a 13-0 run to take its only lead of the game at 51-49. Versailles responded by ending the game on a 16-4 run, scoring 11 unanswered points with the help of five consecutive turnovers by Smith-Cotton (1-14).

Reese Murdock also reached double figures for third-seeded Versailles with 11 points.

Versailles (11-5) faces second-seeded Eugene in the winner’s bracket semifinal at 8 p.m. today.
