COLUMBIA -- The Hickman Kewpies used a 15-0 run in the third quarter to pull away to a 69-47 win Tuesday against the Helias Crusaders in Central Missouri Activities Conference play.
Hickman, the two-time defending CMAC champion, scored the game’s first six points and led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Jacob Rembecki made a pair of 3-pointers early in the second quarter, then Sam Lopez scored a three-point play to give Helias its only lead of the game at 19-18 with 4:50 left in the first half.
The Kewpies responded with a 17-5 run to end the half and led 35-24 at intermission.
Hickman continued to lead 61-39 after three quarters and scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to grab its largest lead of the game at 28 points.
Rembecki scored a game-high 17 points to pace the Crusaders, adding a team-high seven rebounds. Kase Winegar was next in the scoring column with eight points.
Hickman (14-5, 3-0 CMAC), which is receiving votes in the Class 6 state rankings, was led by Brock Camp with 15 points and Jordan Richardson with 14 points. Langston Stroupe finished with 10 points.
Helias (8-7, 2-2), which fell out of the Class 5 state rankings Tuesday but is still receiving votes, is the No. 4 seed in the Bolivar Tournament. The Crusaders are scheduled to play fifth-seeded Camdenton in the first round at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
