This may help to cure your wintertime blues.

Using support and votes from the Central Missouri community, the Special Learning Center pulled away from other nonprofits and won a donation from the St. Louis Blues through the Ameren Missouri Power Play Goals for Kids program.

SLC was one of four nonprofits in the running to receive $500 for each time the Blues score a power play goal this year.

Readers were asked to go to a website and vote daily for the SLC. Voting ended Jan. 31.

Leaders from the nonprofits in the competition were invited Tuesday morning to attend a ceremony at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Blues mascot, Louie, delivered the good news when he flipped over a sign with the SLC logo, announcing the Jefferson City-based nonprofit had won, according to Stephanie Johnson, SLC executive director.

The donation has now reached $16,500 and continues to grow. Each time the Blues score a power play goal, the team will add $500 to the donation.
