Arrest made in JC bank robbery

Authorities arrested a suspect in the Jan. 19 armed robbery of a Jefferson City bank on Thursday evening.

The Jefferson City Police Department’s SWAT team served a warrant about 5:50 p.m. in the 3800 block of Candlelight Drive and arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the robbery at River Region Credit Union.

The suspect remains in the Cole County Jail, awaiting formal felony charges of unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and first-degree robbery.

Investigators said a man entered River Region Credit Union, 3608 W. Truman Blvd., shortly before 9 a.m. Jan. 19, brandished a handgun and demanded money. The suspect ran from the building moments later with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officers did not release a description of the suspect.

They checked neighboring video surveillance cameras to determine his direction of travel. Investigators canvassed the area, but did not find him.

The Jefferson City FBI office participated in the investigation. Crimestoppers offered a reward of $1,000 for information in the incident.
