Two die in separate nighttime crashes

A Russellville woman died in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Boone County.

Around 6:30 p.m., Raechel N. Ford, 34, of Russellville, was driving east on Route H when she crossed the center of the road in her 2022 Ford Transit, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

At the same time, Debra S. Bates, 62, of Russellville, was driving west on Route H in a 2021 Jeep Compass.

After crossing the center line, Ford hit the driver's side of Bates' vehicle head-on. Bates was killed in the crash.

Ford suffered moderate injuries and an ambulance brought her to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment. Bates' passenger, Lisa M. Roberts, 63, of Lakeside, California, suffered serious injuries. Boone Hospital EMS transported her to University Hospital.


A Kaiser man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday night in Miller County.

At 10:20 p.m., Jeffrey D. Ballew, 61, of Kaiser, was driving south on Blue Spring Drive when his 1999 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight crossed the center of the road, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

Ballew's vehicle went off the left side of the road and hit a utility pole before coming to a stop. Ballew was not wearing a seat belt and Miller County Sheriff Louie Gregoire pronounced him dead at the scene just after 11 p.m.
