The Jefferson City Cantorum is warming up for its annual spring concert, set for 7 p.m. May 6 at the Miller Performing Arts Center.

The spring concert is always built on a theme, with this year's being "Forces of Nature."

"So we've chosen music to try to represent a lot of different aspects of nature, like storms and rain and ocean and rivers and galaxies and creation," musical director Suzanne Barner Kitchen said.

A few of those songs include "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, "Singin' in the Rain" and "Here Comes the Sun" by the Beatles.

Kerrie Jones will be accompanying the cantorum on flute, alongside Sydney Witt on saxophone, Bonnie Verdot on string bass and Zane Henderson on drums.

The cantorum is made up of 65 members, with roughly 50 of them performing at this spring concert.

"I know that we're a popular stop for Christmas concerts and we really love that people come to our Christmas shows, but the spring concert gives us the chance to showcase a whole different side of music that you don't get when you're singing all Christmas things," Kitchen said.

The music ranges from spiritual, pop and rock, standards, musical theater and fine arts.

"Everything you'd want is in there," Kitchen said. "We feel like we've done a really good job trying to give the audience a variety and a lot of things they'll recognize and a few new things that we hope will be favorites too."

Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for 18 and under, and $10 for seniors (65 and over). Tickets can be purchased in advance at Hawthorn Bank Downtown, Central Bank West, Hawthorn Bank East, Capital Music and from Cantorum members. They are also available for purchase at the door on the evening of the performance for an additional $2.
