It was a big step forward for the Helias Lady Crusaders

“It was something the girls can build off of,” Helias coach Jon DeSha said after Wednesday night’s 5-0 victory against the Rolla Lady Bulldogs at the Crusader Athletic Complex. “It’s something we needed. I hope it puts us on the fast track for some more wins.”

The Lady Crusaders played well from the start, getting on the board less than 10 minutes into the contest when Alaina Meyer scored after a corner kick.

Helias had a chance to add to its advantage a couple of minutes later, but a shot by Mattie Rost rattled off the crossbar.

Meyer got her second goal of the first half with a little more than 22 minutes remaining when she lined in a shot from the top of the box over the outstretched arms of the Rolla keeper.

“We got a goal on a corner kick, we got one in the run of play,” DeSha said. “Those were two good goals.”

The Lady Crusaders, who led 2-0 at intermission, needed less than three minutes at the start of the second half to double that lead.

Rae Bohlken tallied both of the goals for the Lady Crusaders off assists by Meyer.

Dani Buker scored Helias’ final goal a little more than five minutes into the half, lining in a shot from the left side just inside the far post.

“We had some state-championship performances by some people,” DeSha said. “I know people could say I’m getting ahead of myself, but it was top notch.”

Abbi Tesreau got the shutout in goal for the Lady Crusaders, finishing with five saves.

“A couple of those saves were really strong,” DeSha said.

Rolla is now 4-3.

Helias (2-4-1) will take a four-day break for Holy Week before resuming practice Monday.

“Going into a big stretch we have coming up, it will be good to see who is disciplined, it could be a positive,” DeSha said.

The Lady Crusaders are scheduled to play four games next week at the Crusader Athletic Complex -- Tuesday against School of the Osage and Wednesday against Father Tolton before hosting the Helias Catholic Showcase on April 14-15.

Wednesday’s JV game ended scoreless between Helias and Rolla.
