The Missouri Capitol dome and the Governor's Mansion glowed orange Monday night as Gov. Mike Parson named September as Hunger Action Month.

The declaration is used to bring awareness and help combat hunger in Missouri and encourage involvement in efforts to end hunger in local communities.

First Lady Teresa Parson held the Heart for the Hungry Food Drive on Monday evening at the Governor's Mansion with the Lincoln University football team on hand.

"We've always done things to bring awareness to hunger," Teresa Parson said. "And since football is the big thing for Jefferson City right now, this was the perfect event to get the team out here."

The LU football team has partnered with local food pantries in the past and were excited when they got the invite from the First Lady.

"It's a tremendous honor for us to be here," LU football coach Jermaine Gales said. "It is important that we raise awareness to this hunger epidemic that we are in."
