JC teen charged in April shooting

A Jefferson City teenager has been charged in connection with a shooting that occurred in April.

Allen Vaughn, 17, is charged with two counts of first-degree assault and single counts of unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows the shooting occurred April 10 in the 700 block of Adams Street.

When officers got on the scene, they reported finding 15 9mm shell casings in a parking lot. Around the same time, they were also notified two females were being treated for gunshot wounds at Capital Region Medical Center.

Officers went to the hospital where the first victim reportedly said she and the other victim were sitting in a vehicle when Vaughn approached their car and began shooting. The first woman was struck in the right hip by a bullet that went through and lodged in her left hip. The other woman was grazed by a bullet hitting her right shoulder.

Investigators said the first woman later told them Vaughn called her through an app on a cellphone that allows video conferencing calls, asking where she was at. She claimed it wasn't long after the call that Vaughn came and shot at her and the other woman.

Authorities said the first woman went on to tell them Vaughn's motive for the shooting was his belief family and friends were cooperating with law enforcement to let them know where Vaughn was hiding, as he was an absconder from the St. Louis Division of Youth Services.

The next day, officers said they saw Vaughn coming out of an apartment building in the 300 block of East Dunklin Street and getting into a vehicle. The vehicle was later stopped and Vaughn reportedly fled from it, but was captured after a foot pursuit.

The driver was Vaughn's sister and she allowed officers to search her apartment where she and Vaughn had just left. A 9mm pistol was allegedly located in the apartment. The gun reportedly matched shell casings found at this shooting scene and another unrelated crime scene.
