Jefferson City man sentenced to prison in federal drug case

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to federal drug charges.

According to online court records, Mark Moots, 38, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in the furtherance of a drug trafficking offense during a hearing in May.

Once he is released from prison, he still must complete four years of supervised release.

The charges were filed after a search warrant was served at Moots' home in the 1000 block of Boonville Road in June 2020, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

Authorities said Moots was found hiding in a shower.

Authorities found 576 grams of packaged marijuana, 251 grams of what was believed to be packaged methamphetamine and a fully loaded .380-caliber pistol. A fully loaded shotgun and digital scale were also found, officers reported.

When questioned, Moots admitted the shotgun was his and he had kept it for his protection. He also admitted the methamphetamine and marijuana belonged to him.
