Helias girls tennis edges Capital City in crosstown dual

For the second straight night, the Helias Lady Crusaders picked up a 5-4 win in a crosstown girls tennis dual at Capital City High School.

And just like Wednesday night, Helias won two of the three doubles matches Thursday in its narrow win against the Capital City Lady Cavaliers in Central Missouri Activities Conference play.

At No. 1 doubles, Catie Meystrik and Hannah Meystrik won 8-6 for the Lady Crusaders against Sarah Wilde and Leslie Locke, while Mary Lorang and Liz Drainer won 9-7 at No. 3 doubles against Carly Carron and Brooke Ivy.

Capital City’s doubles win came at the No. 2 position, as Megan Wilde and Manveeta Vuppala won 8-6 against Helias’ Samantha Schlacks and Lily Delk.

The two teams each won three singles matches.

For Helias, Schlacks won 8-1 at No. 3 singles against Vuppala, Delk won 8-5 at No. 4 singles against Locke and Drainer won 8-4 at No. 6 singles against Ivy.

For Capital City, Sarah Wilde won 8-2 at No. 1 singles against Catherine Meystrik, Megan Wilde won 8-2 at No. 2 singles against Hannah Meystrik and Carron won 9-7 at No. 5 singles against Lorang.

Helias (3-2, 2-1 CMAC) hosts the Helias Invitational on Monday.

Capital City (4-2, 2-2 CMAC) continues conference play at 4:30 p.m. today at Battle.
