DNR to host pesticide collection event

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be hosting a free pesticide collection event Oct. 15 at the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) maintenance building, 1031 Jefferson St. in Versailles.

The event will be held from 8 a.m.-noon.

Part of its Missouri Pesticide Collection Program, which started in 2012, the event is set to help protect human health and the environment by collecting and ensuring the safe disposal of waste pesticides from Missouri farmers and households while educating Missourians about how to properly manage and reduce pesticide waste.

DNR will only accept pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides, dewormers, fly tags and fertilizers containing pesticides.

All pesticides that are collected during the event will be categorized, sampled, separated and placed into MoDOT shipping containers with approved labels and markings. From there, the waste is transported by a licensed hazardous waste contractor to a permitted hazardous waste incineration facility for disposal.

The event is open to all Missouri farmers and households. All participants are asked to stay in their cars.
