LAKELAND, Fla. -- A strong second half Tuesday night powered the Florida Southern Mocs past the Lincoln Blue Tigers in women's college basketball action.
Lincoln held a 20-16 lead after the first quarter, then the Mocs came back to tie at 37 as the teams headed into halftime. Florida Southern doubled up Lincoln 22-11 in the third quarter to take a 61- 48 lead into the final quarter.
Le’Yanna McGinnis led the Blue Tigers with 18 points on 8-of-17 shooting with four rebounds, while Kelsey Mitchell scored 12 points with three made 3s. Aysia Arrowood also reached double digits with 11 points.
Mercy Gonzalez led the Blue Tigers with seven rebounds, while Ashlyn Alloway brought down five boards.
Alloway and Saniya Simmons each dished out three assists.
Lincoln connected on 26-of-57 (45.6 percent) shots overall, 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) from 3 and 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) from the free throw line.
Ashley Shell led the Mocs (3-1) with 22 points, while Maria Llorente had 15.
Lincoln (1-3) gets the MIAA season started with a game at Pittsburgh State at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
