Killer Queen to bring Freddie Mercury and company to Mid-Missouri

Fans of the British rock band Queen will have the chance to watch an acclaimed tribute band pay homage to the lasting legacy of the much-loved band.

At 8 p.m. July 15, Killer Queen will perform a handful of Queen's unconventional pop hits at the Capital Region MU Health Care Amphitheater, according to a news release from VenuWorks.

This performance is the first show booked for the amphitheater's 2023 season.

Tickets will be available at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, on Ticketmaster.com and in person at the Hawthorn Bank Box Office. They will likely cost between $34 and $69, the release said.

Lead singer Patrick Myers took on the daunting role of playing Freddie Mercury when Killer Queen was formed in 1993. The band played its first public shows at London University, following in the footsteps of the real Queen, which had played its first shows there 21 years earlier.

"We were only just kids when I formed the band," said Myers in an interview with The National Desk.

"Freddie had just passed away. We were all in shock. Many of us had grown up with their music. I was simply blown away by their last album 'Innuendo,' and we decided to put the band together and play their songs for fun and to honor the band."

One show led to another and the tribute band's reputation grew in the UK. In 1999, they were named "Worldwide Best Tribute Band." In 2016, Killer Queen expanded its touring into America, performing regularly at Red Rocks Arena in Colorado -- one of the country's most prestigious venues.
