Your Opinion: Kudos to Capital City, not to Missouri lawmakers

Dear Editor:

The May 14 News Tribune headlines made my day, sort of.

The Page 1 headline, "CCHS celebrates first graduating class" was only a lead to the excellent coverage of Capital City High School's first graduation ceremony.

Three outstanding quotes provide lessons for the school, the City of Jefferson and our people. First, Student Body President Sawyer Lillard challenged the class to "follow your dreams, find a good role model and don't every give up." CCHS Principal Ben Meldrum reminded the graduates that "in life, you are either a passenger or a pilot. It's your choice." He added, "Wherever your path takes you, leave your mark on it."

Class valedictorian Carrington Stilabower suggested, "Let us each continue to pave the path for others and make history wherever we go."

Seems the students, faculty and staff at CCHS deserve a big "thank you" for a job well done!

The positivity of this article was overshadowed by the negative NT Page 1 bold headline, "Gridlock, GOP infighting marked 2022 session," although this is a most accurate headline. Some readers may recall I am not a fan of the "children" we have "selected to lead Missouri of late. No matter what style of font is used, these legislators are a failure. Will future legislators score higher? Please "show me" a better Missouri.
