Helias Catholic honors underclassmen for achievements

Helias Catholic High School recognized underclassmen for their achievements Thursday. Senior awards were held the previous week.

The Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger Service Award for 100 or more hours of community service during the school year went to junior Lesley Uong with 234 hours, junior Kaitlyn Palmer with 109 hours, sophomore Claire Ashley with 136 hours, sophomore Jordan Howard with 122 hours, freshman Jonathon Hasty with 259 hours, freshman Julian Schmidt with 156 hours and freshman Payton Ratcliff with 147 hours.

The Glory of Missouri Award recognizes students for characteristics encouraged by the state of Missouri. Bridget Hollingsworth was recognized for liberty, Hannah Meystrik was recognized for education, Mutale Chilufya was recognized for truth, Andrew Dowden was recognized for enterprise and Ella Patterson was recognized for charity.

The Dr. Richard Skain Memorial Award goes to a sophomore with excellent character and scholarship, and it went to Enzo Lenart.

The Jayne and Norb Luebbering Memorial Award goes to a junior boy and girl who demonstrate loyalty, character and participation in school activities, and that went to Henry Neuenswander and Danielle Buker.

The Patricia Skain Memorial Award is given to students with character, scholarship and service to the school. It went to Claire Cassmeyer and Sam Lopez.

The Bert Koester Memorial Award goes to a sophomore in Cole County who shows effort, initiative and character, and it went to Kailey Cracraft.

The Helen and Mary Skain Award goes to a freshman boy and girl for scholarship, character and school service, and it went to Aleksandr Careaga and Leia Mueller.

The Triple H Award is for students who earn three varsity letters in one school year. That went to Danielle Buker, Jack Klebba, Henry Neuenswander and Drake Perkins.

The Carl M. Vogel Award goes to a junior boy and girl who have participated in athletics. Award winners are chosen by coaches based on contribution to the sports program. That award went to Henry Neuenswander and Mikah Edwards.

The Hawthorn Bank Award goes to a boy and a girl randomly selected from a pool of the highest academically achieving students from each class. That award went to junior Joseph Raley, junior Leah Kolb, sophomore Mark McDonald, sophomore Isabella Herrbold, freshman Samuel Grothoff and freshman Frances Grellner.

The Bonnot and Hemmel Scholarship goes to the highest-ranking scholastic junior. George Bestgen, Sarah Case, Patrick Conley, Victoria Hentges, Aiden Hoeme, Leah Kolb, Miranda Kolb, Trevor Kolb, Aidan Martin, Avery Massman, Hannah Meystrik, Joseph Raley, Jacob Rembecki, Brooke Reutter, Tori Schmidt, Camryn Strope, Abigail Tesreau and Kadence Wynn all earned a 4.0 GPA.
