College Softball: Gilliland leads State Fair in regional

ST. LOUIS -- State Fair Community College sophomore first baseman Alexis Gilliland went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI last Saturday in the Roadrunners’ 7-3 loss to Three Rivers Community College in the first round of the NJCAA Region XVI Tournament.

Gilliland (Jefferson City High School) was second on State Fair this season with a .362 batting average (34-for-94) with 19 RBI, 15 runs scored and three home runs in 33 games played.

Freshman right fielder Lauren Strange (Blair Oaks High School) batted .146 (14-for-96) in 37 games played for the Roadrunners. She scored 15 runs and drove in nine.

Freshman Kalyn Smith (Russellville High School) played in nine games for State Fair, hitting .286 (4-for-14) with five RBI.

State Fair went 1-2 in the regional tournament, ending its season with a 13-30 record.

State Fair coach Lyndsey Talbot, a former player for the Jefferson City Lady Jays, will be recognized by the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame as she received one of the Hall of Fame’s Diamond 9 Awards in a ceremony Wednesday at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield.
