College Baseball: Wood leads Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State senior shortstop Grant Wood hit a solo home run last Saturday in the Bears’ 5-1 loss to Southern Illinois.

Wood (Jefferson City High School) hit the first pitch he saw in the seventh inning over the left-field fence for his fifth home run of the season.

Wood has started in all 46 games for Missouri State. He is batting .291 (50-for-172) with 35 RBI, 36 runs scored and 11 doubles.

Missouri State (23-23) hosts Illinois State today and Sunday to wrap up a three-game series. The Bears won 15-5 in eight innings Friday, with Wood finishing 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
