College Baseball: Austin hits home run for Missouri

COLUMBIA -- Missouri sophomore left fielder Trevor Austin hit a solo home run Friday, driving in and scoring the Tigers’ only run in a 13-1 loss to the Florida Gators.

Austin (Helias High School) drove a 3-2 pitch over the left-center field fence for his fifth home run of the season, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

In Sunday’s loss at Mississippi, Austin snapped a 15-game hitting streak, which jumped his batting average from .237 at the start of the streak to .325 by the 15th game.

In 37 games this season, including 35 starts, Austin is third on the team with a .311 batting average (38-for-122) with 33 runs scored and 18 RBI. He has been hit by a pitch 12 times and has drawn 17 walks, lifting his on-base percentage to .437.

Missouri (25-21, 7-18 SEC) hosts Florida today and Sunday to conclude the three-game series.
