EUGENE -- The St. Elizabeth Hornets closed out the regular season with a 9-5 win Thursday against the Eugene Eagles.
Brock Lucas got the start and the win on the mound for the Hornets, pitching a complete game while allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk to go along with his 12 strikeouts.
Lucas also led the St. Elizabeth offense by going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, including the go-ahead single in the sixth inning that gave the Hornets the lead for good.
Caleb Oligschlaeger added a 2-for-3 effort with two walks and Levi Holtmeyer went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
St. Elizabeth (12-6, 5-1 Show-Me), the current No. 1 team in Class 1, will start the Class 1 District 6 Tournament as the No. 1 seed Tuesday in the second round against the winner of fourth-seeded Climax Springs and fifth-seeded Tuscumbia in Hermitage.
Eugene (12-5, 3-4 Show-Me), ranked 10th in Class 2, awaits the winner of No. 3 seed Iberia and No. 6 seed New Haven in the semifinals of the Class 2 District 8 Tournament on Monday at New Bloomfield.
