Three people were treated for injuries after a hazmat incident Thursday afternoon at Lincoln University.

According to Jefferson City Fire Department reports, firefighters responded at 4:57 p.m. to a reported acid spill at the Small Animal Research facility on the LU campus.

First arriving units reported the facility had been evacuated. Firefighters and Cole County EMS personnel treated three adults who were eventually transported to a hospital for inhalation injuries and surface burns.

The Jefferson City Fire Department and Cole County Emergency Response Team made a controlled entry to mitigate the spill.

There was minor damage to the facility; it was closed to the public Thursday night.
