Your Opinion: Profiles in leadership

Dear Editor:

You may remember when the Taliban was approaching Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, the president of Afghanistan reportedly loaded up a couple of cars with money and fled to the United Arab Emirates in the Persian Gulf as he was looking out for No. 1.

With Russian forces launching their attack on Feb. 24 on Ukraine, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, when offered safe travel from his country, rejected it and said he needed ammo, not a ride. Now that is leadership. Zelenskyy deserves a Nobel prize in courage. It shows when a leader stays and fights, it allows the United States and other countries with a government that can be supported from outside.

Poor Russian President Putin, all he will be remembered as a poor soul deserving nothing but contempt.
