For Diane Lindsay, the owner of Brimstone Gallery & Antiques in Jefferson City, it’s all about faith, family and friends.
Lindsay opened her new store on the east side of town in November, expanding on a hobby she had enjoyed her whole life. Her parents did craft shows all the time, with her seamstress mother handling the floral pieces and her father providing entertainment. She continued doing shows after they died and, after retiring a couple of years ago, decided to open her own shop.
The family element has stuck with the store since it opened, with one of her granddaughters providing its name, another handling the graphics for the windows and another doing crafts for the store.
“I’m still getting used to having the shop, and I’m loving it,” Lindsay said. “My motto is always be humble and kind … I don’t have very expensive stuff in here. I don’t want to get where I get really expensive stuff because I want to just be able to serve everyone. I think that service is important.”
Her store has a little bit of everything, with items from vendors as well as antique dishes and vintage items. She also makes and sells floral pieces, paints furniture and sells paintings.
While discussing her new business, she helped a customer and heard a story about dishes and family traditions handed down from one generation to the next, another example of the sense of family she tries to bring to the community.
“Just like everything else, faith, family and friends are important in this. That’s my model for life, along with being humble and kind. It’s very important and something to live by.”
