Street closures announced for Salute to America


The downtown street closures have been announced for Jefferson City's Salute to America celebration which will be held Sunday and Monday.

Capitol Avenue from Jefferson to Monroe streets, including both intersections, will be closed for carnival setup at 6 p.m. Thursday and will remain closed until the carnival leaves by 5 a.m. Tuesday. The carnival will also come up Madison Street from Capitol, but not go past the Madison parking garage entrance. Penny Smith, Salute to America event coordinator, said they do not have plans to go up Monroe or extend to Adams Street.

Jefferson City Parks and Rec will set up the Madison Stage after the lunch hour Friday.

The Jefferson City Police Department will close the Madison Street parking garage around 4 p.m. Friday.

The 200 and 300 blocks of East High Street will close at 3 p.m. Sunday and will remain closed until Tuesday. Parking stops in this area at 1 p.m. Sunday.

On Sunday and Monday, employees of downtown businesses may pass through the Jefferson Street intersection to park on Commercial Way, but not the streets; or they can come from Monroe to Commercial Way, but cannot pass through Madison Street.
