Jefferson City man charged after JCPD serves search warrant

A Jefferson City man is facing multiple charges after the Jefferson City Police Department served a search warrant Tuesday morning at his residence.

Yashim Smith Sr., 44, is charged with felony counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon, and armed criminal action, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a defaced firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A JCPD probable cause statement states SWAT officers served the warrant in the 600 block of Linn Street.

During the search, a shotgun was allegedly found under Smith's bed. The serial number had reportedly been filed off.

Officers said they also found a .22-caliber rifle and a marijuana pipe along with a mirror covered in white residue.

When questioned, Smith reportedly told authorities he knew that both firearms were in the home, but that he didn't believe either weapon would fire and denied ever discharging the weapons.

Smith had six warrants for his arrest at the time the search warrant was served.
