Fourth of July is quickly approaching, bringing with it plenty of fun and fireworks in the area. Jefferson City's Salute to America will have events Sunday and Monday, but there are plenty of other opportunities, too.

Ashland

Ashland's 4th of July parade is returning this year, and the Ashland chamber is recognizing its medical community with the theme "Ashland Cares!" The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in downtown. There will not be a fireworks show this year due to fear of fires and cost of materials, but a subcommittee of the Ashland chamber 4th of July Committee is working on fun alternatives.

California

California Masonic Lodge No. 183 is presenting The Stand for America Independence Day parade at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The lineup will start on Smith Street and end at the Moniteau County Fairgrounds. Following the parade will be a picnic at the Masonic Temple Gazebo. The picnic is free, but a $5 donation is appreciated. The night will end with a fireworks show at dusk at Proctor Park.

Eldon

Eldon is hosting an Independence Day 5K Run and Walk at 7 a.m. Monday. The Fourth of July fair and parade begins at 10 a.m., with lineup beginning at 9 a.m. on Second Street behind the Eldon High School gymnasium. Eldon's Fourth of July celebration will include vendors, food, fireworks and a live performance from musician Chloe Hoecker from 4-5:30 p.m.

Freeburg

Freeburg Lions Club is hosting its 25th annual fireworks show from 7:30 p.m.-midnight Friday. Seating will be available for viewing, and hot dogs will be for sale. The show is at Freeburg Lions Field, just south of Freeburg.

Holts Summit

Holts Summit is hosting its annual Fireworks Festival on Friday at Greenway Park. Events begin at 5 p.m. with the opening ceremony. Vendors will be available all night, including Big Hungry Patty Wagon, Old Thyme Funnel Cake and Silveys Soap. The House Band will be performing live music from 5-9 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at dusk. Individuals may discharge fireworks from 1-11 p.m. Friday-Sunday. Fireworks can be discharged from 10 a.m.-midnight Monday.

Linn Creek

The city of Linn Creek is hosting its annual Independence Day celebration at 9:15 p.m. Sunday at LOSA Soccer Fields off North Lake Street in Linn Creek. Roscoe's Ice Cream Truck will be at the free, family-friendly event, and there will be a fireworks display by Premiere Pyrotechnics.

Russellville

The Russellville Lions Club is hosting Russellville's annual fireworks show on July 9, featuring Timmy G's fireworks by Jason Farris and TJ Gibson. There will be food service starting at 3 p.m., serving pork steaks, burgers, pulled pork and more. There will also be snow cones, cotton candy, bounce houses, games and other child-friendly activities. Whiskey Throttle will be performing throughout the evening, and the fireworks show will begin at dusk.
