Dreams are becoming a reality at Capital Arts in Jefferson City.
Through July 23, artists from the area will display their work in a new exhibition titled "Dreams: From Symbolism to Surrealism & Beyond."
The art will represent anything from happy dreams to nightmares to dreamscapes.
"I imagine some artists might even take it to dreams beyond dreams, like dreams for your future," Capital Arts assistant director Sarah Scheffer said.
Local artists submitted pieces for the exhibit until Monday. For future exhibitions, Scheffer would like to see more artwork from teens in the area.
"I'd like to reach more high school students," she said. "Anyone who is high school-aged, they're welcome as well."
In the days before the exhibition opened to the public, judges were examining the art to determine who will be awarded cash prizes at the reception, which will be 5-7 p.m. June 30. The reception is open to the public.
At the reception, artists will also present and speak about their one-of-a-kind work. Appetizers, wine and other beverages will be provided.
At the same time as the reception, the "JCMO Art Around Town" event will be happening around the city. As a part of the art crawl, Capital Arts will have a live art demo happening in the gallery, as well as demos at Pizza Underground and Elm Street Boxing.
Tickets for the exhibition are $5 for Capital Arts members and $10 for non-members.
