Brianne Morgan began her career as a speech-language pathologist working at local schools, with the dream of starting her own business where she could take the lead.
When the opportunity came up, she said she leaped to take it.
The Therapy Clubhouse, a new business in Jefferson City, now offers pediatric speech and language therapy.
"I loved it, obviously; I love helping those kids that have these significant needs," she said. "When I first got into graduate school, my dream was to have my own practice at some point or kind of operate. Like me being the big boss, and me kind of calling the shots on how we treat. And I just saw so many kids falling through the cracks, and so many kids that we were failing to treat, and I thought about it for a long time. And the time became right financially for me and my husband, and we decided to take that step to help those kids that are falling through the cracks."
The Clubhouse is currently a one-woman show, with Morgan serving as its speech-language pathologist with a smaller caseload in the summer and hopes for a more robust list of clients as time goes on. While the new business is starting out as a small operation, she said she has big plans for the future.
Morgan hopes to see the business expand to other therapy areas, including occupational and physical therapy. She also hopes to offer social groups for adolescents that would allow them to interact with other children as well as a language play group for toddlers and children of preschool age.
"We don't know what the future brings, but I hope that it's a quickly growing therapy space," she said. "There's not much like that in Jeff City. There's not a whole lot of places people can go whenever they can't seek help through the schools. And I just want to be a resource. I just want to be a resource to these families who can't find what they need."
