FULTON, Mo. -- Callaway County plans to apply for more than $4 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds.

This will be the second half of the county's approved allotment in ARPA funding. Each payment is worth $4.345 million for a total of $8.69 million.

The county received the first allotment in June 2021 and is taking it's time spending it.

While some money has been assigned, such as $250,000 for each township in Callaway County, much of it hasn't been allocated.

The county received $5.2 million in CARES Act funding in 2020 and formed a community committee to advise the commission on how to spend the funding.

The same committee is also advising on how to spend ARPA funding. It includes representatives from each city within the county, the commissioners and representatives from other county offices such as the health department.

Funds need to be spent by the end of 2024, unless there's a contract in place for how the funds are being used. All projects need to be finished by the end of 2026, Callaway County Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann said.
