Agency seeks to disrupt ‘school to prison pipeline’

The Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council has set aside $275,000 to fund a three-year project titled "Disrupting the School to Prison Pipeline (SToPP)."

The project is intended for students of color who have developmental disabilities. MODDC is currently seeking a partner to develop and implement a series of restorative justice trainings for educators and school resource officers through the project.

It will create systems change and provide opportunity for students who are disproportionally affected by policies and practices that deprive them of a typical education (especially those with disabilities).

This project will also provide equitable experiences, access to a quality education and instructional time, and provide supports and services that lead to inclusion of the student in a typical school/classroom environment similar to their peers.

An MODDC-hosted question-and-answer webinar is scheduled for 1 p.m. June 27.

Questions should be submitted in writing to [email protected], in care of Katheryne Staeger-Wilson, by 1 p.m. June 21; however, the session will allow for additional questions.

Q&A webinar details:

• Monday, June 27, 2022; 1 p.m.

• Zoom meeting link: us02web.zoom.us/j/82236203139

• Zoom meeting ID: 822 3620 3139

• Zoom password: 137081

MODDC will within 48 hours post on its website all questions and answers addressed during the Q&A webinar.

The deadline for project applications is 3 p.m. July 29.
