The St. Elizabeth Hornets baseball program added to theirs.
Russellville and St. Elizabeth captured state championships with victories in the title games of their respective classifications at U.S. Ballpark.
Russellville earned its first state title in baseball Tuesday afternoon with a 5-3 victory against Portageville. The Indians, who entered the postseason ranked No. 1 in Class 2 by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association, never trailed in the game.
The Indians led 3-0 after two innings and 4-1 after three. Portageville scored twice in the fourth to cut Russellville's lead to a run, but the Indians added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Tuesday night, St. Elizabeth added a fourth state baseball title to the school's trophy case with a 9-2 victory against Oran in the Class 1 contest. St. Elizabeth was ranked No. 3 in Class 1 entering the playoffs, while Oran was co-No. 1.
It was a measure of revenge for the St. Elizabeth, who lost 3-0 to Oran in the state championship game last year.
St. Elizabeth jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning, then scored five times in the second to make it 7-0. Both teams scored twice in the fifth inning to make the final 9-2.
