Paddy Malone's Irish Pub is set for its first major property improvements in 25 years.
The renovation project will see the replacement of the pub's 20th-century frame construction, as well as the wooden deck at the rear of the property. There are also plans for new masonry and frame construction as well as a new HVAC for the bar room, kitchen and dining room, and other updates to interior areas.
The project kicked off with the start of demolition on the old deck a little more than a week ago, the first step toward a new era for the popular destination. Work is still under way on the demolition.
The update team is all Jefferson City-based as well: The project is being overseen by Dick Otke Construction Co. with designer Architects Alliance, while assistance for the project is contributed by Hawthorne Bank and Rural Missouri Inc.
While owners Allen and Marilee Tatman and kitchen manager Tommy Tatman said they expect minimal downtime for the kitchen and bar areas, brief closures are expected as work gets under way.
"Rest assured, you will still get that feel of entering a cozy Irish pub, with friendly staff, good food and drink," Allen Tatman said. "If anything, we believe that the experience will be enhanced -- and the Guinness will still be a properly poured pint with a creamy head."
They said updates would serve to enhance the patron's experience rather than compromising its environment.
A staple on West Main Street, the pub is touted as the longest continually-operating tavern in the state by its owners. It dates back to before the Civil War, though it has gone by different names and owners during its century and a half in business. It was included on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
Paddy Malone's Irish Pub is located at 700 W. Main St. It is open from 4 p.m.-11 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday and 4 p.m.-1 a.m. Thursday-Saturday. It will keep patrons updated on the project via its Facebook page.
