News Tribune to host three candidate forums

The Jefferson City News Tribune will host three forums featuring local candidates in contested races for the April 5 election.

Each forum, moderated by Managing Editor Gary Castor, will pose questions from the News Tribune staff and community members to the candidates. Community members may email suggested questions to [email protected].

An open forum for Jefferson City Council candidates in contested races is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Council Chambers at Jefferson City Hall, 320 E. McCarty St.

In Ward 1, Jack Deeken and Jacob Robinett are vying for the seat currently held by Hank Vogt. In Ward 3, Erin Wiseman is facing a challenge from former councilman Bob Scrivner.

Ward 2 incumbent Mike Lester, Ward 4 incumbent Ron Fitzwater and Ward 5 incumbent Jon Hensley are running unopposed.

An open forum for Jefferson City School District Board of Education candidates is scheduled for March 16 in the Council Chambers at Jefferson City Hall, 320 E. McCarty St. Anne Bloemke-Warren, Adam Gresham, Marc Ellinger and Erika Leonard are vying for two open positions. Lorelei Schwartz and Stephanie Johnson currently hold those seats, but neither filed for re-election.

The City Council and Jefferson City school board forums will be livestreamed on newstribune.com and the City of Jefferson YouTube channel.

A virtual forum for Blair Oaks R-2 School District Board of Education candidates is scheduled for March 24. Four candidates are vying for two open positions incumbent John Weber and challengers Adam Mietzner, Valerie Fischer and Glenn Reynolds. This forum will not be open to the public, but a video of it will be uploaded to newstribune.com.
