Berhorst will not run for re-election as Cole County auditor

After two terms as Cole County auditor, Kristen Berhorst announced Tuesday she will not seek re-election in 2022 in order to pursue other interests.

Berhorst was elected as county auditor in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. Prior to being elected, she served as the chief deputy auditor for almost 10 years.

As county auditor, Berhorst served as the budget officer and accounting officer for Cole County. The duties of the office include working with all county departments and elected officials to develop the county budget, financial statements, county inventory and implementing the financial software.

"I have had the privilege to work with some amazing people during the last 18 years and would like to thank the citizens of Cole County for their trust and support during my time as Cole County auditor," Berhorst said in a news release.

Filing for those running for countywide offices in the August primary elections starts Feb. 22. Along with the auditor's position, the other offices up for election are: presiding commissioner, collector, clerk, recorder; associate circuit judge, circuit clerk and prosecuting attorney.
