Girls Basketball: California 60, Eldon 55

CALIFORNIA -- The California Lady Pintos took first place in their home tournament for the third straight season Friday, topping the Eldon Lady Mustangs 60-55.

Trishelle Porter made a pair of 3-pointers in the early going, pushing the Lady Pintos to an 11-3 lead. California led 17-7 at the end of the first quarter, then KaLynn Irey scored the team’s next four points to extend the lead to 14.

Rylee Hees made a 3 from the right wing at the buzzer to put the Lady Pintos in front 28-13 at halftime.

Eldon battled back, closing the gap to 10 at 42-32 by the end of the third quarter on a 3 by Jaci Mueller with :10 left.

The Lady Mustangs scored 10 points in the final minute of the game, getting a 3 from Haley Henderson with :02 left to make the final margin five points.

Henderson scored a game-high 15 points for the Lady Mustangs, all in the second half. Mueller followed with 13 points and Sydney Halderman finished with 12 points.

For California, Hees had a team-high 12 points, while Porter, Lauren Friedrich and Bailey Lage each finished with 11 points.

California (9-4), which is now 3-0 this season against Eldon, will play Monday at Hallsville.

Eldon (8-6) will play next week in the School of the Osage Tournament. The third-seeded Lady Mustangs open against sixth-seeded Warsaw at 5 p.m. Tuesday in pool play.
