Boys Basketball: California 60, Southern Boone 36

CALIFORNIA -- Trevor Myers and Calen Kruger combined to score 55 points Friday, leading the California Pintos to a 60-36 win against the Southern Boone Eagles in the third-place game of the California Tournament.

It’s the Pintos’ third win this season against the Eagles.

Myers finished with a game-high 29 points and Kruger added 26 points. Scoring the Pintos’ remaining points were Jaden Trachsel with four and Derek Bolinger with a free throw.

Myers and Kruger accounted for California’s first 12 points of the game, as the Pintos led 14-7 after one quarter. They scored all of the team’s points in the second quarter, holding onto the lead at 27-23 at intermission.

The California duo also scored the team’s first 16 points of the second half, going 6-of-6 at the free-throw line, until Trachsel scored a layup to push the lead to 45-32 by the end of the third quarter.

Kruger added nine points in the fourth quarter, as the Pintos led by as many as 25 points.

Carter Salter and Kellen Ash each scored 10 points for Southern Boone (4-9).

California (13-2), which received votes in the Class 4 state rankings this week, will resume Tri-County Conference play Tuesday at home against School of the Osage.
