Dear Editor:

Building a wall between Mexico and the United States with Mexico paying for it; throwing out Obamacare and replacing it with a better insurance system; renegotiating the Iran deal to get better terms for the United States; eliminating North Korea's nuclear threat; working with Congress to pass an infrastructure bill -- all unfulfilled promises made by former President Donald Trump.

President Joe Biden stopped building the wasteful and useless wall Trump pilfered money from the Defense Department to build for just a few miles. Biden has expanded Obamacare during the pandemic. He is working with our allies and China and Russia to restart the Iran deal to prevent them from developing nuclear weapons. He worked with Democrats and Republicans to pass the massive infrastructure bill. Thirteen Republicans and 19 in the Senate voted for the bill.

Unfortunately, Trump has promised to punish these Republicans by opposing them in their primaries. A bipartisan No Surprise Medical Billing Act was also passed, preventing patients from paying out-of-network exorbitant charges.

Politifact said "a negative coronavirus test is required by the federal government before immigrants entry into the United States." The FBI, Defense Department and other agencies assist with the vetting process that includes fingerprinting and interviews checked against government databases.

There have been surges of immigrants just as there was under Trump wanting to get into the U.S. Title 42 still enables the Border Patrol to expel immigrants to stop the spread of the coronavirus. To believe immigrants are bringing crime into the U.S., one only has to compare border cities with urban areas in the rest of the nation. According to Axios, from Brownsville, Texas, to San Diego, crime rates are comparatively lower in border cities in the United States.

Withdrawing from "forever wars" such as Afghanistan and Vietnam are always calamitous. After losing more than 58,000 soldiers in Vietnam and 2,401 in Afghanistan we tried to evacuate safely. Both involved deaths.

In Vietnam, 155 people died when an evacuation plane crashed as the Tan Sun Nhut Airport was being bombed. Many Vietnamese were evacuated by helicopters from the roof of the American embassy in Saigon. In both cases, the U.S. tried to evacuate as many Vietnamese and Afghans in a short amount of time. More than 70,000 Vietnamese and 70,000 Afghans were evacuated. According to one estimate, there are only about a dozen Americans left in Afghanistan.
